01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Md Aris Yong Tahu stands out as a beloved Malaysian restaurant nestled in the heart of Johor Bahru at 49, Jalan Merdeka, Kampung Melayu Majidee. Specializing in authentic Yong Tau Foo—a traditional Malaysian dish featuring an assortment of tofu stuffed with flavorful fillings and served in a delicate, aromatic broth—this eatery offers a truly comforting and satisfying culinary experience.

From the moment you step inside Md Aris Yong Tahu, the warm and welcoming atmosphere sets the tone for an enjoyable meal. The spacious seating arrangement ensures diners never feel cramped, creating a relaxed ambiance perfect for both casual dinners and family gatherings. One particularly thoughtful feature is the availability of separate surau facilities for men and women, an added convenience that shows the restaurant’s attention to the holistic needs of its guests.

The star of the menu is undeniably the Yong Tau Foo. Renowned among locals and visitors alike for its fresh and flavorful soup, the broth is crafted with care, free from any MSG, allowing the natural savory elements and the subtle tang of salted vegetables to shine through. As Desi Daisy beautifully puts it, the soup's richness invites you in, warming you with every spoonful.

But Md Aris Yong Tahu’s appeal does not stop there. The ala carte selections such as Kue Teow Goreng, Mee Goreng, and Nasi Goreng Cina are equally memorable, offering perfectly wok-tossed noodles and rice dishes with that unmistakable wok hei — a testament to the skillful hand behind the stove. Aminah Hussien’s praise for the stir-fries highlights the balanced flavors and expert technique that elevate these dishes beyond the ordinary.

While some have noted a slight variation in saltiness or a unique twist to the classic Yong Tau Foo soup, like Ahmad Abdullah’s observation of the soup being “fresh and delighting,” this difference adds character and invites diners to savor something that feels both familiar and intriguingly distinctive.

Practicality meets charm at Md Aris Yong Tahu with ample parking that eliminates the usual hassle in Johor Bahru, and a spacious dining area that allows you to savor your meal without feeling rushed or crowded. Aizat Aziz’s recent discovery of this gem reflects how the restaurant continues to win hearts, offering a haven for those seeking hearty Malaysian flavors in a comfortable setting.

For food enthusiasts craving an authentic taste of Johor Bahru, Md Aris Yong Tahu is more than just a meal—it’s a flavorful journey that invites you back for more, a place where every dish tells a story of tradition, care, and passion.

Tried the yong tahu with bee hoon. They only have the soup version. It was different from the Chinese ones that I've had before. The soup had salted vegetables in it. The items were mainly processed steamboat items. It was ok. The star, I felt were their stir-fries. They were well done, it's got wok hey and flavourful. I tried the fried bee hoon and char kway teow. They were good. Next round I'll try the fried rice. Overall a welcome change from the usual JB street food.

Good place to have dinner. Their yong tau foo is delicious but bit salty. Just nice for my taste. Their Kuey teow goreng also very delicious. Just discover this place recently while searching for yong tau foo. The place also very nice and quite huge, will not felt too packed and can enjoy the dinner nicely. Have big parking space. Also got nice surau. Good job owner

Md Aris Yong Tahu in JB is an absolute flavor bomb! The moment your plate arrives, the aroma of freshly fried yong tahu and smoky mee goreng hits you — instantly making your mouth water. The first bite is pure bliss: the yong tahu is soft, tender, and melts in your mouth, while the mee goreng delivers a perfect balance of smoky, slightly sweet, and savory flavors. The textures are addictive — soft yong tahu, springy noodles, and subtle crunches in every bite keep you hooked. The slight saltiness of the yong tahu blends perfectly with the noodles, creating a harmony of flavors that’s impossible to resist. Generous portions, bold flavors, and that unforgettable first-bite sensation make Md Aris Yong Tahu a must-visit spot in JB for anyone craving authentic, crave-worthy yong tahu and mee goreng. One taste, and you’ll be planning your next visit before you even finish!

Tasty yong tau foo..The soup looks plain but actually very nice. Price kinda cheap only RM28 for two. Nice atmosphere and even though it's weekend, they still manage to provide fast service. Plenty of parking inside the premise. Recommended to try here.
